International Seminar within the framework of the UN Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat) Project

20-21 April 1999 within the framework of the UN Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat) Project held the International Seminar "Sustainable Development of Human Settlements and Improvement of their Communication Infrastructure through the Use of a String Transportation System".

The organizers of the Seminar:

  • Habitat Executive Bureau in Moscow,
  • Sochi City Administration,
  • Regional Social Development Foundation of the linear transport system (Moscow),
  • Research Center "Unitran" (Gomel),
  • Academy of New Thought (Moscow),
  • Sochi State University,
  • Center "Krasnaya Polyana" (Sochi).

Topics:

  • On implementation of the Habitat project FS-RUS-98-S01-A,
  • Scope of the String Transportation System (STS) in various urban settings, including in the cities of developing countries,
  • The role of the STS in the Federal Target Program "Social and economic development of the city of Sochi for the period up to 2010", including the example of STS highway "Sochi - Adler - Krasnaya Polyana - Engelmanovy Polyany",
  • Organizational and economic mechanisms for the construction of a pilot project and STS investment in the current economic conditions,
  • On the establishment of the STS test site,
  • Involving a wide range of experts, STS advocates to form a positive image of contemporary, alternative forms of transport.

On the seminar was told 13 reports, including the report of the head of the Habitat project Anatoly Yunitsky "On the Progress of the Habitat Project", was organized a round table. About the Seminar told two national newspapers, two local newspapers, the Sochi State Broadcasting Company, a local radio program.
